www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday July 18, 2007 - 5 Parole violation sparks hunt for dangerous repeat offender Police need the public's help in apprehending a dangerous repeat offender who disappeared while on parole earlier this week. Daniel Raymond Coyle, 26, was on parole from a two-year, 10-month sentence in connection with the violent sexual assault of a 48year-old woman as she walked along Oakville's St. Augustine Drive in August 2004. During the attack the victim received severe injuries including a fractured orbital bone and other facial injuries. In October 2004, police caught up with Coyle in the Speers Road and Kerr Street area, but when a lone Halton Regional Police officer attempted to handcuff him, Coyle struck the officer in the head with an elbow and again disappeared. The officer received minor injuries as a result. A month later Coyle was arrested by RCMP and local police in Alberta in response to Canada-wide warrants issued by Halton police. Coyle has now disappeared while on parole for that sentence, which included convictions of assault causing bodily harm, escape lawful custody, assault peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with probation. It is now hoped another Canada-wide warrant will help police locate him. Coyle is described as white, male, 6-foot, weighing 200 pounds with hazel eyes, short brown hair and a slight goatee. Coyle is known in the Burlington and Oakville area. He has an extensive criminal record that includes theft, robbery, mischief, fraud, break and enter, assault, and drug-related convictions. Anyone with information with regards to the whereabouts of Coyle is asked to contact the Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad at 416-8085900 or toll free at 1-866-870-ROPE (7673) or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS or call 9-1-1. For information call Detective Constable Ed Gies, Provincial R.O.P.E Squad -- Toronto at 416-806-3704. Local stores urged to close doors The Town of Oakville is again asking businesses located in the downtown Oakville, Kerr Street and Bronte areas to participate in the Doors Closed campaign to reduce energy consumption. Stores are being urged to save on electricity by not opening windows and doors during the summer heat. "While many stores already keep their doors closed, this campaign is an additional reminder that small changes can make a big difference," said Cindy Toth, Director of Environmental Policy for the Town of Oakville. "Open doors used to be viewed as a way to increase business. Now, closed doors are becoming the new norm. Keeping the cool air inside is a simple, cost-effective way to reduce our energy consumption." This will be the third year Oakville has participated in the Conservation Council of Ontario's province-wide Doors Closed campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness about energy conservation. Participating stores will display a Doors Closed poster in their front window. The poster reads, "Please Come In ... Our door is closed to save energy." A Town environmental representative will be visiting stores throughout this week to ask local businesses to support the campaign and to distribute posters. Last year, approximately 100 stores participated in the campaign and the number is expected to increase this summer season. "We would like to thank stores that participate by keeping their doors closed, both for the duration of this campaign and throughout the warm weather season," said Toth. "By reducing our energy use, we're able to reduce pollution, help prevent energy shortages, and improve the environment." Residents interested in distributing posters to stores in their area are asked to contact the Town at 905-845-6601, ext. 3928.
