Stingy Phantoms in Cup quarters The Oakville Phantoms under-16 girls posted three straight shutout victories to advance to the quarter-finals of the Ontario Cup. The Phantoms blanked Niagara Falls, 1-0, and St. Catharines and Pickering, both by 4-0 counts, to win their division in preliminary round play. The Phantoms will next face Erin Mills Aug. 11 in the quarter-finals. Advancing to the Ontario Cup quarters is the latest accomplishment for the Phantoms, who are the only team in any division of the Ontario Youth Soccer League -- male or female -- to have won every game this season. The Phantoms are 6-0 in league play and have outscored their opponents 20-3. That impressive run has the Phantoms sitting atop the Terra Power Ranking among the 93 teams in Ontario. The rankings rate teams in each province based upon their performance in league and tournament play. Prior to the start of the regular season, the Phantoms went to the Crossroads of America Tournament in Indianapolis and came away with a win, tie and loss. Among their opponents were the fourthand seventh ranked teams in the U.S. "Whenever the girls know there is an important game on the line, they step up and make things happen," said Phantoms coach Peter Uremovich. "As well, I have been told by other coaches that they enjoy playing us because they know they will get a tough, clean game no matter what the outcome." The team recently returned from a training camp at the University of North Carolina, which was led by Anson Dorrance, the former coach of former U.S. Olympic and World Cup star Mia Hamm. The Phantoms were the only Canadian team at the camp.
