Dreamacres members now feel this money was wasted. "It's upsetting. It's just upsetting," said Dreamacres member Mona Garde, who is also the parent of a Sunningdale student. "It's a really sad day because the children planted these trees and there were alternative locations for those portables." The Halton District School Board is adamant that it had no choice in the matter of bringing the portables to the school and even less choice in deciding where to put them. "Unlike many boards across this province, Halton is growing," said Wayne Joudrie, Director of Education. "A combination of that and a very popular French immersion program, in Halton generally and Oakville specifically, has created a need for additional classrooms on the Sunningdale site." When these factors are brought together with the Province's smaller primary class size initiative, Joudrie says the introduction of six new portables was necessary to prevent overcrowding.
