The memorial was officially unveiled Saturday and sits on the shore of Lake Ontario in Fisherman's Wharf Park in Bronte Village. The ceremony took place under clear skies and drew a sizeable crowd. "In celebrating our 150th year as a town, it's important to recognize the history, industry and lifestyle of the people of Bronte," said Ward 1 Town Councillor Ralph Robinson, who hosted the event. "This memorial celebrates the working-class fishermen and their families who settled here and will preserve the rich history of the fishing village of Bronte for future generations." The memorial, which stands 12 feet long, six feet high and two feet deep, is constructed of solid granite and weighs 12 tons. On the memorial are seven plaques that show scenes of fishermen along Bronte Harbour. It includes an etching of a portrait that depicts former fisherman Tom Joyce, sitting on the Bronte pier cleaning fish from box nets.
