Police invite the public to come in to identify a bike if they've had one stolen prior to auction. www.atlantisair.com Tempting targets Oakville's Natural Stone Supplier PERMA Continued from page 1 it properly before leaving it, which were words her son took to heart. During a visit with friends in the Glen Abbey area, the boy locked his bike to a nearby fence, believing it would be safe. He was wrong. "They cut around the fence and took the bike and the fence," said Hickey. "So the poor kid comes out and phones me in the middle of the night because he can't get home and he needs a ride." With four bikes stolen, the most recent one only lasting a month, and hundreds of dollars wasted Hickey decided to swear off bikes. A year later, however, fate decided to play one last cruel joke. "I told him then, that I'm not buying anymore bikes and I happened to be at Wal-Mart and they had these bikes out on a sidewalk sale," she said. Hickey purchased the bike at a discounted price and made every effort to make it theft proof. She provided her son with a decent lock and even wrote her phone number in indelible marker underneath the bike's bar. "That (bike) was stolen at his school," she said. Today, Hickey's son, now 18, uses inline skates to get to work and school. "I refuse to buy him a new one and he's decided, what's the point because every time he gets a new bike someone steals it." What further frustrates Hickey is the fact that she is not the only person being victimized by bike thieves. While scanning the Kazzio Online community bulletin board for Oakville Hickey noticed a message, posted June 12, from a woman who was looking for a bike because hers was stolen at an Oakville mall.
