www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday July 27, 2007 - 19 Unique charity golf tourney powers up "The comments we are getting about the tournament is that it is The Keys & Tees Golf Day is revving up unique, one of a kind, never done for its first annual charity golf tournament before in this area." SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER By Catherine O'Hara Flamborough, Oakville, Guelph, and Cambridge. For information on the Keys & Tees Golf Day, or to register for a 25 per cent chance of winning a vehicle on a hole-in-one, visit www.brichem.ca/golf or call Brian Hall for more information at 905815-7432. The golf club is at 1137 No. 1 Sideroad, just north of Dundas Street in Burlington. Registration on the day of the event will take place from 10:30 until 12 (noon). Tee off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington Monday, Aug. 13. Brian Hall, chair of Keys & Tees, described the event as a "unique" twist to mainstream tournaments. Golfers who shoot a hole-in-one will be awarded with a brand new vehicle of their choice offered by one of the nine Burlington-area car dealerships. The Hidden Lake Golf Course will be transformed into a par-three format. Aside from the 18 hole-in-one prizes, the Keys & Tees Golf Day will host the longest drive contest and all 18 holes will be used for the closest-to-the-pin contest. In addition, four holes on the course will offer golfers special prizes, including a chance to win a complete set of John Daly golf clubs and bag. Registration cost for the event is $200 and golfers will receive a tax receipt for their contributions for approximately $100. Included in the registration fee is a barbecue lunch, a full 18-hole round of golf, dinner at the course, a gift bag and "A chance to win a car," exclaimed Hall. The funds raised at the event will benefit two local charities, including Waterdown's Drummond House, a transitional home for women and their children as well as Coping Centre, a bereavement support group out of Cambridge. Hall, who spearheaded the event, lost his son, Mark, 11 years ago. "We didn't know where to turn," he said, until he and his wife were introduced to Ros and Glenn Brian Hall, chair Keys and Tees Crichton, the founders of the Coping Centre. "Immediately, we were put at ease and they (the Coping Centre) were instrumental in helping us get through," said Hall of his journey of grief. A trophy in honor of Hall's son will be awarded to a golfer at the tournament. "It is an amazing concept for a golf tournament," said Debbie Tichelaar, Director at Drummond House. "Both charities are near and dear to our hearts," said Hall. Approximately 20 volunteers from each charity will lend a hand. "The comments we are getting about the tournament is that it is unique, one of a kind, never done before in this area," described Hall. "It's really getting a lot of interest on that standpoint." Aiming for a full shotgun, 144 golfers, Hall encourages individuals to register online. A description of the event, Drummond House and the Coping Centre and sponsors are listed on the website. Since Hidden Lake Golf Course has two full 18-hole courses, the Keys & Tees Golf Day slated for Aug. 13 will not disrupt any of the club's regulars. The location of the course, explained Hall, is central, servicing many of its surrounding communities including e! se ook el om ew C rn ou Embrace your independence.
