IODE supports local students Oakville's Angela Bruce Chapter of the IODE (Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire) recently handed out nearly $20,000 to local students. The cash to assist graduating high school youths pursue postsecondary education is just one of the byproducts of the local IODE's operation of its Opportunity Shop on Kerr Street. Omar Kesebi from Thomas A. Blakelock picked up the $8,000 Merrian Keegan Award, which is the largest award granted in the Angela Bruce Chapter IODE and is given over four years. The late Merrian Keegan was a member of the Angela Bruce Chapter IODE, and served on the IODE's National Executive. Nine other students were awarded bursaries of $1,000 each and two others picked up bursaries worth $500. All recipients are graduating students from local high schools.
