www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 3, 2007 - 33 Minor mosquito A's continue to roll with two tourney gold The Oakville minor mosquito A's continue to enjoy a dream season. Oakville, 17-1 this year, added to its list of accomplishments with a pair of tournament championships in recent action. The A's won gold at their own tournament, successfully defending the title they won in 2006, and then captured gold at a Mississauga Southwest competition. SPORTSBRIEFS At the Oakville tournament, the A's routed Cambridge 18-1 in the final after disposing of arch-rival North York 8-3 in the semis. Oakville also defeated Waterloo 5-0, Burlington 15-10 and Guelph 20-9 during the competition. Matt Luff, Tristan Pompey, Ben Donnell and Sam Medeiros supplied strong pitching for the A's, while Ryan Tomka and Jake Medeiros led the way offensively. In Mississauga Southwest, the A's went 3-0 in round-robin action before meeting Whitby in the semifinal, where they were down to their final out and down 6-2. However, Oakville managed to rally for a 7-6 win, keyed by a two-run single by Sam Medeiros, an RBI double by Ben Donnell and a two-run game-winning home run by Boston Elliot. The A's rode that momentum into the final, where they crushed North York 123. "I'm quite proud of the way the boys played over the course of these two tournaments," said Oakville head coach Nevil Corbeth.
