www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday August 4, 2007 - 31 Oakville youngsters win medals at T&F meet Three Oakville athletes earned medals at the Ontario Minor Track and Field Championships, held last weekend in Oshawa. Hailey den Elzen earned four medals, including gold in both the tyke girls' long jump and medley relay. She added a silver in the 100metre dash and a bronze in the 200m. Courtney den Elzen, Hailey's sister, won the atom girls' shot put and posted excellent times in both the 100m and 200m races. Courtney, a Grade 6 student, won silver in the 200m with a time of 25.12 seconds, and claimed bronze in the 100m with a time of 13.38s. In boys' action, Alec Traynor concluded a strong season with a silver-medal effort in the mite 400m. Earlier in the summer, he won gold in 400m at a Guelph invitational meet. The three athletes are members of the Georgetown Thunderbolts, a track and field club that serves the community of Halton Hills and is affiliated with the Minor Track Association of Ontario. The world dragon boat championships are different, however, in that the competing squads are true national teams. Another Oakville resident, MaryLouise Kozak, is also on the team, with the majority of the squad comprised of paddlers from eastern Canada. Dalgleish has competed in every World Masters Games since the event's inception in 1985, and has her sights set on participating in the next one. Those Games are slated for 2009 in Australia, when she will be 71. "I'm sure one day I'll wake up and decide I don't want to work so hard," she said. "But not as long as there's a new goal. This is what keeps you going."
