The performances at Town Square Stage tonight kick off at 5:30 p.m. with The New Excelsior Jazz Band. The six-piece traditional jazz band plays in the Dixieland / New Orleans style, and has a repertoire that includes blues, spirituals, marches, show tunes and novelty numbers. Also tonight from 8 ­ 9:30 p.m, trumpeter Alexis Baro will take the Towne Square Stage. A co-winner of the 2004 National Jazz Award for Best Acoustic Artist, Baro is known as one of Canada's best trumpeters. He performs in various styles, including jazz, R&B, funk and calypso. The final show at the Towne Square Stage tonight is Rachel Z and the Dept. of Good and Evil, from 10:15 ­ 11:45 p.m. The Manhattan-born and raised Rachel Nicolazza plays piano, and performs everything from hip-hop grooves to poems about the search for love and wisdom through music. Melissa Bathory will get things going on the Jazz East Stage tonight from 7 ­ 8:30 p.m. Her debut album, Ready, explores a sound that includes funky pop and classic jazz sensibilities. Following Bryan is DK Ibomeka on the Jazz East Stage from 9:30 ­ 11 p.m. With his three-octave range, Ibomeka has been dubbed one of the best new voices in years, and was nominated earlier this year for Male Vocalist of the Year at both the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards and National Jazz Awards. Playing tonight on Acoustic Stage One is Kevin Clark and Dirty South. They play two sets, from 6:30 ­ 7:45 p.m., and from 9 ­ 10:15 p.m. Clark is the music director for Toronto's Distillery District. Tonight at Acoustic Stage Two, The Red Peppers Dixieland Jazz Band will perform from 6:30 ­ 7:45 p.m., and from 9 ­ 10:15 p.m. Playing the classic style of Eddie Codon and Louis Armstrong, the band has been together since 2001. Saturday, Aug. 11 features Dementia 4 from 2 ­ 3:30 p.m. at Centennial Square, the first of four shows on the stage that day. The band plays a mix of Dixieland, traditional swing, classic bebop and songbook standards. Eliana Cuevas will perform from 4:30 ­ 6 p.m. The Venezuela native sings in Spanish, Portuguese and English, with a variety of pop, Latin-jazz, reggae, salsa, Brazilian and flamenco ensembles. Alex Pangman and Her Alleycats will take the stage from 7:30 ­ 9 p.m. The three-time National Jazz Award nominee has been dubbed Canada's sweetheart of swing, and has a passion for early jazz. Namori will finish things off for the night on the Centennial Square Stage, from 10 ­ 11:30 p.m. A musician who blends Jazz and African music, Namori has played alongside Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart and Joan Baez. On Saturday, Aug. 11 on the Towne Square Stage, Bell Youth in the Spotlight will kick things off from 2:30 ­ 4: 30 p.m. The young jazz artists are given the opportunity to showcase their talent thanks to Bell Canada's Youth in the Spotlight program. Elizabeth Shepherd will take the Towne Square Stage from 5:30 ­ 7 p.m. The jazz vocalist and pianist incorporates sounds including jazz, funk, samba, house, swing, soul, hip-hop and more.
