A large space has been provided for the event at the mall in the parking lot between Harvey's and the LCBO. Items include electronics, furniture, toys, books, clothing, baby items and sporting goods. School Bus Orientation Day Saturday, August 25, 2007 A safety program for all first-time riders. The Halton School Bus Safety Committee is offering a free program for all first-time school bus riders prior to the first day of school. The program will held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 in various locations throughout the Region of Halton. The one hour program promotes school bus safety and includes: A discussion of student responsibilities while on school buses A Winnie-the-Pooh video for the younger students An interactive demonstration of bus safety zones A ride on a school bus to practice safe loading and unloading. It was the fourth national title for the team. The 14-year-old Dolphins Swim Club member earned seven medals, including three golds, at the Age Group National Championships in Montreal. She won the 50m backstroke, 100metre freestyle and 400m individual medley and established five new club records at the meet. Russell also earned four silver medals with second-place finishes in the 200m medley, the 100m and 200m backstroke and the 200m freestyle The Dolphins' Lauren Dixon also won a medal, taking a bronze in the 100m breaststroke. The 12year-old also made a significant impact on the club record book, establishing three new records at the meet. The Dolphins had several other swimmers turn in top-10 finishes at the national meet, including Maggie Burns, 11, Joey Weatherill, 13, Peter Kruzyk, 14, and Alex Van Ommen, 16. Twelve-year-old Cole Van Ommen swam in the 13-year-old division and turned in club record times in all seven events. Open water swim Russell also had success at the Georgian Bay Open Water 2-km Swim in Barrie. Russell won the women's overall title and led a Dolphin sweep in the girls 14-and-under division. Teammate Bronwyn Evans, 12, was second while 11-year-old Maggie Burns was third. Cole Van Ommen won the 14-and-under boys division while Kruzyk was third. Dolphin swimmers earned two more bronze medals. Cameron Russell was third in the men's 25-and-under division while Isabelle Nat, 16, earned the bronze in the women's 25-and-under division. Alex Van Ommen finished just behind Nat in fourth place. Ten-year-olds Veronica Jasek and Conor Russell also competed at the event. Support your local carrier Currier tops tyke division at Kiwi Tour event He didn't have to deal with sleet or snow but the rain certainly couldn't stop Oakville's Brad Currier. Currier shot a 91 at Waterloo's Grey Silo Golf Course in a round that was interrupted by thunderstorms and a steady downpour for an hour and a half. His score gave him a comfortable sixstroke win over Carlisle's Robbie McCarthy in the tyke (11-and-under) division of the GolfScene Kiwi Tour event. Oakville's Matt Hagglund earned a share of a division title. He fired a 77 to finish in a three-way tie for first in the junior (16-18) division with Jack McLeod of Ayr and Ben Shane of Waterloo. Oakville's Jim Morley finished third in the adult division B flight with an adjusted score of 84. The division was won by Burlington's Jeff Lofft, who had a 73. More than 90 golfers took part in the tournament. Volleyball coaches needed The Halton Hurricanes, a competitive Ontario Volleyball Association club with 10 teams for girls ages 12 to 17, is looking for coaches for the upcoming season. Head coaching and assistant coaching opportunities are available. Previous coaching experience at the club or school level is an asset. Applicants should have an understanding of the game as it is played at the senior high school level and the requisite physical coaching skills to be able to participate on court during training. NCCP coaching programs will be offered for the successful candidates.
