They were both blessed with high energy levels and a dedication to helping others. Barbara was born and grew up in Oakville and attended St. Jude's Anglican Church. She helped with Sunday School, sang in the choir and later became a Girl Guide Commissioner. Barbara has been active with Hillcrest United Church since the family moved to their beloved Pineland Farm in Hornby 46 years ago. James was born in Esquesing Township, a small farming community north of Milton. While his parents did not have the financial means to donate to charity, especially during the depression, James did learn the importance of hard work and helping others. In his autobiography Mr. Jim From Esquesing, The Land of the Tall Pines he writes: "One thing that I will always remember about life in these early days is the level of neighbourliness and cooperation among all the farm community. It did not matter the chore that had to be done; you just called on the necessary number of neighbours to help and they would all be there the next morning, regardless of their plans for their own work." Snows established the James and Barbara Snow Family Fund, a designated fund which will support six of their favourite local charities forever. The Snows like the idea that The CFO will carry on their community building spirit after they pass on. The designated fund will support the Oakville, Milton and Georgetown hospitals as well as the Lions Foundation, Dog Guides of Canada and two churches in the Milton area. In addition to his philanthropic pursuits, Snow is a man of vision who has contributed greatly to the growth of Halton. Through his company, Snow Construction, he has developed many buildings throughout Halton region. James Snow As MPP for Halton East and Oakville for 18 years, he was responsible for the establishment of Bronte Creek Provincial Park, the creation of the Ontario Agricultural Museum in Milton ­ now called the Country Heritage Park, the construction of Hwy. 403 and the initiation of Hwy. 407, while serving as Ontario Minister of Transportation from 1975 to 1985.
