44 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday August 29, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Balletomane Performing Arts In Motion, formerly Fleming School of Performing Arts offers students the same excellence in dance education In January of 2007, after a lifetime of teaching and thirty years of operating the Fleming School of Performing Arts, Virginia Fleming made the difficult decision to retire. For many Oakville residents the Fleming School of Performing Arts has been an integral part of their children's lives. With approximately 400 students, a dedicated artistic faculty, and a stunning 7300 square foot facility, it was the ideal choice for many Oakville residents. Virginia Fleming has always been passionate about the performing arts and was able to nurture this love in all of her students. It was therefore an easy decision for Sarah Baeumler (nee Shorney), teacher and former student of Virginia Fleming's, to purchase the building and business. With the retirement of Virginia Fleming, the name `Fleming School of Performing Arts' retired along with her and the school is now known as Balletomane Performing Arts In Motion. The school will continue to offer excellence in dance education as it has done for the past thirty years. Balletomane offers the Syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), for ages three to adult, in the disciplines of Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre Dance, Jazz and Tap. The Classical Ballet Syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is also offered to students at the Intermediate and Advanced levels. In addition, classes are offered in Lyrical Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre & Stage, and Acting. The fully accredited Artistic Faculty of Balletomane ensure that each student is offered the highest level of instruction, whether it is to foster their appreciation for dance or to facilitate their pursuit of a professional career in the performing arts. As such, dancers develop a sense of self-discipline, focus and a strong work ethic. Balletomane has introduced two Vocational Programs for students ages nine and up (Intensive Accelerated Ballet and Vocational Jazz & Stage). The Vocational Programs are a commitment on behalf of Balletomane to enable and allow for careful, constructive and professional training within a nurturing environment. Their philosophy is in `complete' education which includes the importance of academics and the continuing support and stability offered from a student's family life. These programs are carefully designed for dedicated and serious dance and theatre students. Balletomane aims to prepare students for a potential professional career in dance performance, teaching, choreography or related skills. Entry into these programs is based on physical attributes, the ability for students to accept and apply corrections, a strong sense of discipline, and a natural love of the performing arts. It is the goal of Ms. Shorney to provide each student with a sense of pride and dignity in what they have already accomplished as a dancer and what they strive to accomplish in the future. Ms. Shorney is pleased to report that many incredibly talented students will be returning to the studio as well as the dedicated and enthusiastic artistic faculty. Sarah Shorney is looking forward to welcoming back `Fleming' students and extends a warm welcome to any new students who may be joining Balletomane.
