So, what we tend to do is we finish our run, we have breakfast and then we try to stay up because it's good if you can get to bed at 5 or 6 p.m. and sleep until 1 a.m., and then we get up and start the pattern over. We'll do this for four days. Our next shift is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. which is more normal." While running in the early hours of the morning may not be everyone's cup of tea, Furtado notes that it does have advantages. "Today I was running and I saw the sun rising up from the lake and there were the most amazing colours," she said. "In our trip we went through different places, lots of busy and crowded roads. We had a lot of bad and good experiences, but Canada, I think, is one of the best." The experience has also been a rewarding one for Loutitt who, even after seeing the splendor of Europe and Asia, still feels there's no place like home. "I'm back appreciating Canada more than I ever have before. It's unfortunate that sometimes you almost have to lose the things you like in order to realize how valuable they are and how much you cherish them," he said. "After travelling the world I am a thousand times more proud to be a Canadian." Yesterday was particularly special for Loutitt as, besides helping to bring the Blue Planet Run another 20 miles closer to completion, he married Taeko Terauchi, the Japanese representative on the Blue Planet Run team. "I got an hour and a half of sleep last night. I've been planning a wedding for two days, I'll be running 10-miles now, I'll be running 10 miles in another four hours and in between now and then I'll be getting a marriage licence and doing all these other things," said Loutitt. Besides having the pressing issues of life to deal with, the marathon also presented the additional challenges of adverse weather and swarms of hungry insects. "We've been pretty lucky. We had some violent rains down in Indiana and we had some storms in Russia but we missed some of the cataclysmic things that are going on around the world," said Helling.
