www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 31, 2007 - 21 HOPE has lineup of pride events for Pride Week The Halton Organization for Pride and Education (HOPE) has a line-up of pride events set for next week (Sept. 3-9.) The annual picnic has been delayed because of the increase in requests for anti-homophobia education HOPE received in its first year as a full-time social provider. "We still wanted to give the community something in recognition of the eighth annual Halton Pride Week," said executive director of HOPE Marcus Logan. "We were fortunate to find some volunteers from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) communities who really wanted to pull something together. They had to make a very difficult decision in putting the annual picnic on hiatus until 2008. The planning committee really wanted to take the time and energy the picnic and the LGBTQ communities deserve." This year's events include raising the pride flag, celebrating pride at the theatre and a pride brunch. HOPE has made a proclamation and requests to fly the rainbow Pride Flag for Halton Pride Week. The flag will be flying over Oakville, Milton, Burlington and at Halton Regional Headquarters on Bronte Road. The WEST End Studio Theatre of Oakville, in association with the Halton Organization for Pride and Education and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Halton, will present the 10th anniversary of the funny theatrical production, Norman, Is that You? at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts Sept. 6-15 at 8 p.m. The comedy follows Ben Chambers, whose wife runs off with his brother. Ben heads to New York City to get comfort from his son Norman, only to find Norman is living with a gay partner. While Ben tries to set his son on the straight and narrow, the play is about a father's journey to acceptance of his child. Saturday, Sept. 8 is Halton Pride Day, and HOPE has a block of tickets for this performance at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, 130 Navy St., in celebration of Halton Pride week. Tickets cost $25 each and $20 for students and youth under 18. Those who can't make the Halton Pride Day performance on Sept. 8 can still support Pride by buying tickets through HOPE for one of the other dates. Portions of the tickets sales will support the 9th Annual Halton Pride events. The HOPE Community Pride Brunch for the LGBTQ communities, its allies, families and friends will be held Sunday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m.2 p.m. at Sharkey's World Café, 220 North Service Rd. HOPE has also partnered with the Burlington Central Library for Halton Pride Week and will have a display shelf of LGBTQ resources and fiction at the library. The Halton Pride Planning committee is organizing the ninth annual Halton Pride Picnic for June 2008. Labour Day WEEKEND sale $ Sculpture of Zimbabwe NEW INTRODUCTION!
