www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday August 31, 2007 - 25 Artscene Oakville Beaver · FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2007 Craft brewer still turns heads By Melanie Cummings SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER The craft brewer that turned heads because of its unconventional nine-pack and uncanny cream ale is now toasting 10 years in the microbrewery business. It's proof that Cameron's Brewing Company and its natural, preservative-free beers are certainly no flashes in the pan. While producing award-winning recipes such as Cameron's Lager, Cream Ale, Dark 266 and Auburn Ale, Cameron's has created a loyal following that has new converts daily. "We find that once people try our beers, they become supporters and this is something we will always focus on," said Mike Laba, who's in charge of promotions for the local brewery that's located at 1165 Invicta Dr. Over the years its four libations have also won gold-medal accolades among aficionados gathered at the Toronto Wine & Cheese Show, The Great Canadian Festival of Beer, Canadian Brewing Awards, and the GTA Golden Tap Awards. But the bottom line is not the only one being drawn by the brewer. Cameron's is determined to be a socially and environmentally conscious brewer. All of its spent grains are given to local farmers to be used as cattle feed. As well as eliminating plastic promotional roll banners in favour of reusable ones, and using business cards and stationary printed on 100 per cent post consumer paper, Cameron's continues to search for other ways to make less of a dent on the earth. It's currently exploring biodegradable beer cups and even pens. DEREK WOOLLAM / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER CELEBRATE: Cameron's Brewing Company recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with an open house at its Invicta Drive location. Ever-present at area events, festivals, samplings and craft beer presentations, Cameron's plans to continue partnering with businesses and organizations to offer unique and profitable additions to their business, added Laba. "We have also been working with chefs lately to create beer and food experience events at resorts, restaurants and pubs," said Laba. Cameron's has called its Invicta Drive operation home since 2002. The empire all started Etobicoke. "Oakville proved to be a very successful move for us. It is a great community to do business," said Laba. Cameron's lagers and ales are stocked at The Beer Store and select LCBO stores as well as at bars and restaurants throughout Ontario.
