Sunday, CBC will show footage from the 2007 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, held last weekend in Germany. The Canadian women's team, which includes Abbey Park High School student Alyssa Brown, needed a top-12 finish to qualify a full squad for the 2008 Olympics, but finished 14th. By finishing in the top 15, however, the Canadians were able to qualify two individuals for next year's Olympics. The gymnastics championships will be aired at 2 p.m. Following that, also on CBC, a preview show for the FIFA Women's World Cup will be aired, beginning at 4 p.m. Kara Lang and Diana Matheson are on the Canadian squad that hopes to improve on a best-ever fourth-place showing at the last World Cup, held four years ago in the U.S. The tournament begins Monday in China, with Canada's first game scheduled for Wednesday against Norway. CBC will broadcast Canada's three opening-round matches live, along with all elimination games. Finally, the eight-game Super Series -- dominated thus far by Canada -- continues tonight and concludes Sunday. Tonight's game will be broadcast live from Red Deer at 10 p.m., while the finale will be shown from Vancouver at 8 p.m. Canada, which boasts local talents Sam Gagner, John Tavares, Steve Mason and Stefan Legein, has won the first six games of the series in decisive fashion.
