"You're happy, you're anxious, all these things at once. Then you just realize this is what we've been given," he said. "It was shocking, and our world changed forever when we found out. We just went into planning mode and went from there." For Mediwake, a native of Sri Lanka, who was raised in Alberta and has been working in television for the past 10 years, it means time off work, and a whole different kind of `assignment' from the one she is used to at the news desk. "This is probably the most successful thing, and the best thing I've ever done," she said of being mom of three at once. "It is a ton of work, and until you come to the house and you work with triplets, you have no idea how busy it is." Thirty diapers need to be changed every day at one of the house's three diaper stations there's one upstairs, one downstairs, and one in a nursery. And then there's just as many bottles every day. The biggest adjustment, Max, Libby and Annabel's parents agree, is time management. "You have to really learn how to be time management savvy. You really have to manage your time better," Konynenbelt said. "You can't dilly dally in the grocery store any more." Then there's getting ready to go somewhere. "If I have to go to my pediatrician and the appointment is for 2 p.m., I start getting ready at 11," said Mediwake. "You have to make sure everybody's changed and everybody's fed. Then you have to load everyone and everything in the car." And that's a whole other problem. "Transportation for us has been a really big shock," Mediwake says. It's what Konynenbelt calls "the mini-van crisis." They traded their car with Mediwake's sister's mini van, but it's not working as planned. "The van that we have, we've already outgrown it," Konynenbelt said. "There's not enough room in the back for storage, so there's no room for anything else other than the kids and ourselves." With Max, their son, "we're loading him in through the back," said Mediwake, "there's no room "This is probably the most successful thing, and the best thing I have ever done. It is a ton of work, and until you come to the house and you work with triplets, you have no idea how busy it is. " Anne-Marie Mediwake to do it any other way." The couple is currently looking for a mini van with enough room for the five of them plus their two strollers, one of which is a double. They were advised by other couples with triplets not to buy a triple stroller. "We were told it's like pushing a ladder, it's too big to fit a triple stroller anywhere," Mediwake said. "It's a whole lot of mathematics to work everything out." While transportation continues to be a struggle, the parents are quickly learning each of their toddler's likes and dislikes. "It's figuring them out, but you've got to figure out three different babies. Who's hungry when, who has to be changed, who has what cry, what the different cries mean," said Mediwake. "We're now able to tell their cries when we're not around them," added Konynenbelt. "We'll hear a cry on the monitor and go, `Oh yeah, that's Max.' They all have their own uniqueness about them." While Konynenbelt is reporting, Mediwake has had the help of her mother during the day-time, plus the assistance of friends and family. "We have family here in Oakville who have been really supportive, and you know, we really like the community," Mediwake said. "We like the schools here, and we picked Oakville because we wanted to raise our family here." The pair moved to Oakville four years ago with that intention, and last September moved into a bigger home. "When we moved in, I said, `I can envision children running around the stairs here,'" said Konynenbelt, "but I never envisioned it would be three." So, will there be more additions to the family? "These are our first and last," Mediwake said, laughing. "We're good with three." INDOOR & OUTDOOR FITNESS TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING 1 hour a day / 3 or 5 days a week / 4 weeks Enlist today!
