The inaugural Empty Bowls Help for Halton's Homeless, presented by Lockwood Chrysler, will be at Appleby College on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 1 ­ 4 p.m. The concept of empty bowls is simple ­ ceramic bowls are created and sold by local potters, students and volunteers and the money raised is donated to Home Suite Hope, a local charity helping Halton's most vulnerable ­ men, women and children who are without a place to call home. As a thank you to those who purchase bowls, soup and bread from some of Oakville's finest restaurants and caterers will be served. "It's a great honour for our chefs to receive recognition along with other top restaurants in the area," said France Fournier, Marketing and Community Relations Specialist at Whole Foods Market Oakville. Not only will Whole Foods Market Cream of Mushroom Soup be served at the event, soups from Julia's, The Twisted Fork and Stoney's Bread Company, to name a few, will also be featured. Empty Bowls' proceeds benefit Home Suite Hope, a local charity developing innovative solutions to homelessness by providing shared living accommodation for people who are in dire straits. Many people in Halton aren't aware that there is an issue of homelessness here because they don't see people on the streets.
