Alexa had about $50 worth of goods to sell, but a high turnout and donations saw her raise far more. The Halton Family Walk for Heart and Stroke is this Sunday, Sept. 23 at Bronte Creek Provincial Park and Alexa will be there. It will be her third time in the walk. In 2005, Alexa was only three and walked about 90 percent of the 5 km-route, her mom carrying her the last half-kilometre. Registration for Sunday's walk opens at 9 a.m., walk start time is 10:30 a.m., rain or shine. All families are welcome to sign up for a 2.5 or 5 km walk. ADVERTORIAL Discover the work of artist Roberta Carbone at the 4th Annual Oakville Artists Home Gallery Tour Oakville resident Roberta Carbone has had a lifelong passion for painting and drawing. Later this month her work will be on display to the public as part of the 4th Annual Oakville Artists Home Gallery Tour. "My "career" as an artist started with drawing Li'l Abner and Dagwood from the Saturday morning paper," reminices Carbone. I continued to draw and paint throughout high school, but put my artistic aspirations on hold for a more practical career choice as a medical secretary." Later, Roberta worked at home raising her sons, Chris and Mark, with her husband Charlie. Still, her interest in art never waned. As her children got older, Roberta enrolled at Sheridan College, studying drawing. She continued with watercolour classes through the Oakville Art Society and the Mississauga Arts Center, studying under a variety of talented teachers, (William Biddle, Doug Mayes, Victoria Weir, Gail Mowat and Ann Prior), all of whom have inspired and encouraged her to follow her dream. Over the years, Roberta has participated in small gallery shows, as well as Arts and Artisans by the Lake at Appleby College. She has donated paintings for charities such as Oakville Community Living, Community Ladies Bible Study Group and the Special Olympics. She continues to develop her talent through artists' workshops and classes. Roberta is an original member of the Oakville Artists Home Gallery Tour, a group which encourages established and emerging artists to show and sell their work in a home gallery atmosphere. Roberta now paints in a sunny studio at her home in northeast Oakville. Intricate landscapes are her favourite subject - soft transparent skies, rocky seascapes, winter scenes - captured moments for eternity. She displays her paintings there, available for purchase year round. Her work is also available to be seen and purchased at the offices of State Farm Insurance agent Dwight Strong. On the weekend of September 29th and 30th, however, Roberta will feature her work - watercolour originals, prints and notecards, at her home as part of the Oakville Artists Home Gallery Tour.
