38 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday September 19, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com MARKSMAN: Cameron GaleaAndrews (in white) attempts to evade a Dixie opponent during Saturday's Ontario Cup under-13 boys' final. Galea-Andrews scored the only goal in the Oakville Raiders' victory at Vaughan's Ontario Soccer Centre. DEREK WOOLLAM / SPECIAL TO THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Raiders, Dixie closely matched Continued from page 37 through to the championship final this year, Oakville coach Martin Traynor said. "They (Dixie) are a good team. They don't give up," he said. "(They) have competed with us for the last four years, and they are close to us every year." The first half was contained to the neutral zone, for the most part, as both sides battled for control of the game's pace and the opening goal. Both rallied up and down the pitch all game in the evenly-matched tilt that was beginning to look like it was destined for extra time. That was until late in the second half, when Christian Briscoe -- who showed well up front all game -- launched an imaginative pass that evaded several Dixie midfielders and reached Devon Lio, who then forwarded the ball to teammate Cameron Galea-Andrews. Galea-Andrews made no mistake in cranking the ball beyond Dixie's Alexander Pothemont. Pothemont, who was injured on the play in what appeared to be a slight collision with an Oakville player, was replaced with Jack Adams, who stood in until the end. Clearly disheartened by the goal but refusing to surrender, Dixie made every attempt to spring its midfielders up the right and left flank on several late-game instances, but the opponent's efforts were thwarted by a team that was seemingly buoyed by its recent one-up goal. Galea-Andrews, a Grade 8 St. Vincent Catholic School student who has been playing with the Oakville team as a midfielder and striker since age six, said the entire team moved the ball well. "The whole team worked together, but especially Christian and Piotr (Obyrtacz)," he said. A mixed team of established and new players, the Oakville Raiders competed in the SRSL league final for the fourth year in a row Tuesday evening (a game that began after the Beaver's deadline). The Ontario Cup champion Raiders squad also includes Darrin Macleod, Ross Hunter, Dibblee Kevin, Andrew Sacchetti, Derek Peters, Adam Traynor, Matthew Derrick-Hiue, Luca Ciminelli, Austin Wright, Kapusin Joey, Karlo Bobinac, Andrew Sahai, Daniel Borg and Jeff Podgroski. Michelle Sacchetti, Rita Peters and Joe Borg round out the Raiders' coaching staff.
