26 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 5, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com New school years brings excitement and challenges By Veronica Fedorvich and Carly Grummett GRADE 8, EASTVIEW fter a memorable summer of 2007, the first day back at school is always an adventure. Welcome back to Eastview. As you approach the school your emotions are running high, although you don't know what to expect, you can only A hope for the best outcome on your first day. As students, we always look forward to seeing old friends, and making new ones, but you dread the thought of homework, tests and assignments all over again. However, with amazing teachers, and your friends' support, you know that the year won't be so bad. Following the first bell of the morning, you're anxious to meet your classmates, and to start cramming your head with information. But as you walk the halls you notice that Eastview looks a little different. Now that the French Immersion students have moved to new schools, there are fewer classes, fewer teachers, and fewer old friends. The Grade 7 students are very happy they no longer have to share lockers. They, along with the Grade 6 students, get their very own lockers this year. Now that the portable classrooms have left the Eastview grounds, there is more space for students to roam and play. Furthermore, since there are fewer students, we get to have physical education up to four times a week, which helps us to get off of our seats. Lots of change! After a few tough tryouts, the boys and girls volleyball teams were selected. The students are looking forward to the season. Lots of devoted runners came out for the cross-country teams too. Students from Grades 3-8 are looking forward to the challenge of competing in a 2.5-km run at Sherwood Forest Park. Just like the upcoming provincial election, Eastview is also a place where we get to vote for people who will work on behalf of the student body. Class representatives have been selected for Student Parliament and our student government is now planning lots of enjoyable activities. We are looking forward to the upcoming election. With the Terry Fox Run, an open house, barbecue and a spirit day around the corner, Eastview is off to a great start. No matter how much work we get, or how much we complain, we're all ready for the thrilling school year ahead.
