She said, "A lot of people consider securing a tennis scholarship to be the big accomplishment but for me the big accomplishment was finishing the four years and finishing well. It was tough combining the academics with the demanding schedule of training, travel and competitions." "Having to answer the bell every time wasn't easy," she explained, "but sticking it out really helped prepare me for life." Since getting her degree she has taught tennis at the Boulevard Club in Toronto and worked in various public relations and marketing jobs, notably for Tennis Canada and the Ontario Tennis Association. A highlight would be the year she spent as right hand person to Stacey Allaster when Allaster was Tournament Director of the Rogers Cup."Stacey is a phenomenal marketer and one of "Having to answer the bell every time wasn't easy, but sticking it out really helped prepare me for life." Amanda McKee my business role models," said McKee citing "her work ethic, drive and ambition are things I want to bring to my career." Allaster was recruited two years ago to be President of the WTA Tour in the United States. For the past three years, McKee has worked for Canadian Tire Financial as a marketing manager. She is excited about getting back to her job when her maternity leave is over, though just at the moment she wonders how difficult it will be, separating from this baby who is such a delight. "Motherhood does change your life, but not in ways that are always predictable," McKee mused. "I'm not a stay-at-home type of person. But the truth is I've never been happier than these past few months. I thought the baby was going to tie me down, but she has proven to be quite portable." It takes some planning, of course, and personal fortitude (and considerable equipment), but Emily seems quite content to be out and about (usually). According to this first-time mother, it's worth the effort. "What changes most is your perspective on life," McKee explained. "I'm not so self-centered. I'm more empathetic to others with children. Suddenly, the reason I want to have a successful career is so I can provide more opportunities for Emily." Oh, and did I mention she seems happy? Who said love means nothing in tennis? 8 Huge Super Store - 228 King St. E.
