www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 12, 2007 - 7 Gang preying on north Oakville youths Halton Police are investigating a series of robberies in the North Oakville area, which they believe to be the work of the same gang of young men. Police say the first incident took place on the evening of Friday, Sept. 28, when approximately six young men approached a 15-year-old boy as he was riding his bicycle through the wooded pathway near Rushbrooke Drive. One of the young men grabbed the boy and demanded money. The boy was then assaulted when his tormentors discovered he had nothing of value. The following evening saw another incident take place, in which a 17-year-old girl and her 17-year-old boyfriend were robbed as they walked through Heritage Park. This time, police say, one of the young men pointed a knife at the couple during the robbery. The armed robberies continued on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 4, when a gang of between five and eight young men stole money and jewelry from a 14year-old boy and a friend as they walked along a foot trail in Taplon Park, located in the area of West Oaks Trail and Bloomfield Drive. Again, a knife was pointed at the victims during the robbery. In a final incident, which occurred on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 6, four young men approached a 15-year-old boy as he walked with three friends. Police say one of the men produced a knife and demanded money and the boy's backpack. Police are looking for males between the ages of 15 and 17, wearing hoodie-style sweaters and bandannas. Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate these incidents. Anyone with information related to them is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-634-1831 ext 2215 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). OCTOBER LINEN SALE 20% OFF ALL ORDERS Green Party made gains, but no seat in election Continued from page 6 Including the Green leaders in the televised leadership debate will allow over 25 per cent of young voters the opportunity to hear what matters to them. This may encourage them to vote and it does matter. It is surprising that a party whose leader was not included in the televised leader debate garnered eight per cent of the popular vote. It was the only party to gain 250,000 new votes in this election, while being muzzled. What does the status quo not want you to hear from these Green leaders (Dejong and May)? Congratulations to Ted Chudleigh and his team. Also, did you know that the PCs had 31.6 per cent of the popular vote and only 24.3 per cent of the seats. Does that seem right you?
