www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday October 19, 2007 - 27 Sponsors help fill the empty bowls As the Empty Bowls Help for Halton's Homeless event draws near, the Steering Committee took time to recognize the support from community sponsors at Crackpot Studios on Oct. 4. All sponsors and their guests were honoured, and had the opportunity to throw bowls on the potting wheel or to paint bowls for the event. Presented by Lockwood Chrysler, and held at Appleby College in the new dining facility, Oakville's Empty Bowls event will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 1 4 p.m. It is an open house format, so people can come and go at their leisure. The concept of Empty Bowls is simple ceramic bowls are created by local potters, students and volunteers and will be on display at the event. In exchange for ticket purchase, community members will receive a bowl of their choice, and as a thank you, soup and bread is served from fine local restaurants and caterers. The money from ticket sales will benefit Home Suite Hope, a local charity creating innovative solutions to local homelessness. According to Dwight Lacey, Home Suite Hope board member and fundraising committee chair, "The Oakville community in particular has stepped forward in a big way to help with Empty Bowls - from the tremendous team of dedicated volunteers on the steering committee to the many restaurants, merchants, Appleby College and Lockwood Chrysler, all have really made helping the homeless their issue."
