As Mulligan put it, "I really enjoyed it and kept working on it, just seeing how far I could get." With a style she describes as "a mixture between The Cranberries and Avril Lavigne," Mulligan started playing at The Moonshine Café on open mic nights, and has also appeared locally at CJ's Café and other venues. Her experience there landed her gigs in Toronto, including at the popular concert venue The Rivoli, where she played during a `Girls with Guitars night.' "I was playing with people who had been playing 10 or 15 years," said Mulligan. "They were professionals. It was a She works twice as fast as everyone else... real honour to play there." With the goal of becoming a recording artist, Mulligan is now taking a two-month long government program called YMCA rocks, designed to educate and give experience to those interested in the music industry. She may be fairly new to the scene, but Mulligan has already recorded three of her singles on a demo CD, and has written more than 30 original songs. This includes a tune called Last Night, which she entered into the CosmoGirl competition. "It's about the summer before everyone goes away, you're spending time with your friends, but it's going to end soon because everybody's going away to university," she said. "It's just kind of that moment in time that you want to last forever." Mulligan says it's one of her stronger songs, and "has a message everyone can relate to," especially the teenaged crowd the magazine caters to. That, and "the song got a really big response." "When she first put Last Night on her My Space page, she got all these responses from Italy and Germany, all over the place," said Tammy. "I think she even got a marriage proposal," she added, laughing.
