Seven-point week earns honours for Tavares John Tavares has been named the Ontario Hockey League's player of the week for the second time in the fourweek-old season. The 17-year-old Oakville native had four goals and three assists in two games. Tavares had a goal and an assist in the Oshawa Generals' 9-2 win over Erie and had a season-high five points, including three goals, in an 8-2 victory over Kingston. Atom AA Hornets start with silver The Oakville atom AA Hornets served early notice that they should be a contender in the newly-created Lower Lakes Female Hockey League, earning silver at the recent Willowdale Red Wings fall tournament. Oakville yielded only one goal in round-robin play, posting shutout wins over Burlington, Mississauga and Brampton while tying the London Devilettes 1-1. The Hornets faced London again in the final, a game that remained scoreless through regulation time and a fiveminute overtime period before London won an 11-round shootout. Samuel leads U of T to golf championship Scott Samuel of Oakville fired rounds of 72 and 68 to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues' team to victory at an NCAA golf tournament hosted by Robert Morris University last week. Samuel's four-under par 68 at the Montour Heights Country Club in Pittsburgh gave him a two-day total of 140, tying him for third place, three strokes off the lead. Three of the Blues' five-man team finished in the top 12 as U of T posted a new tournament record of 586, giving it a 13-stroke victory over Clarion University and Canisius College. The Blues concluded the season this week at the Ontario University Athletics championships in Ottawa. Multiple goal-scorers in the tournament for Oakville were Bradley Byers (four), Benjamin Hamburg, Michael Pare (three each), Kyle Kolwich and Luke Vasilaros-Wilson (two apiece).
