2- The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 24, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Resident assaulted during failed home invasion robbery Halton police are looking for two men who assaulted an Oakville resident during a failed home invasion robbery last Wednesday (Oct. 17) night. Police say the two men entered a home on Strawfield Drive through an unlocked door at which point they began threatening the resident and demanding money. The resident was struck in the face before the two men left the residence empty handed. The victim received minor injuries during the encounter, but did not require medical treatment. Police say the first suspect is male, possibly East Asian or Middle Eastern and approximately 27 years old. He is 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, weighing 180 pounds with short dark hair and at the time of the crime he was wearing a black hat and a red-hooded sweatshirt. The second man is described as black, approximately 20 years old, 5-foot-8 with a slim build. At the time of the incident he was believed to be wearing a hat. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident. Pesticide open house Saturday The Town of Oakville is hosting a pesticide bylaw open house on Saturday. The free event is at the Town hall's South Atrium from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The purpose of the open house is to prepare residents for the implementation of Oakville's pesticide bylaw on Jan. 1. All residents are invited to attend and learn from the experts how to work within the bylaw to maintain or create beautiful and healthy landscapes. Experts will provide advice on natural gardening, native plantings, water conservation, waste management and more. Also included are raffles, giveaways, games, and expert speakers. "We invite all residents to join us in embracing Oakville's natural environment," said Cindy Toth, Director of Environmental Policy for the Town of Oakville. "Many people are interested in going pesticidefree but have questions about the by-law or are unsure about how it can work for them.
