www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 24, 2007 - 39 Benefit concert Saturday Two local musicians are using their performance as a way to give back to the Oakville community. Janet Stachow, pianist and Oakville resident of three years, will be performing classical piano music at St. Simon's Anglican Church on Saturday, Oct. 27 to help raise money for Kerr St. Ministries. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Stachow will be joined by guest artist, Charlene Pauls, a local soprano. Ron Shantz, executive director of Kerr St. Ministries, is excited about this musical event. "It adds a timely dimension to the awareness of our new music and arts program commencing this fall," said Shantz. Stachow will be performing works by Chopin, Mozart and French composer Debussy which features the popular Clair de lune from his Suite Bergamasque. Pauls will be showing her versatility, singing French music by Canteloube and Fauré and ending with American gospel songs. "People love hearing music," said Stachow. "I remember being quite shy about performing, but now I want to share music with others. So I ended up calling the program, quite literally, Share the Music." Both Stachow and Pauls work for the Oakville Children's Choir, Associate Music Director and Senior Vocal Coach, respectively. St. Simon's Anglican Church is located at 1450 Litchfield Rd. Tickets may be purchased at the door. The suggested donation is $15. For more information, call 905-4690819. Cleaning time is here for both your home and body. There are various types of cleanses, and you should consult a Naturopathic Doctor for instructions on the best approach for you. The purpose of a cleanse is to improve the detoxifying function of the liver and kidneys, and eliminate toxins that have accumulated in those organs as well as the intestines. Toxins are all around us: in the air, water, and food supply. We also create some of the toxins internally when we are under stress. Be sure that you are having regular bowel movements before starting to cleanse. Two or more bowel movements per day is the recommended frequency. If this is not the case, a naturopathic doctor can recommend appropriate diet changes, exercise and supplements that will improve your situation. Constipation or a low number of bowel movements will block the body's excretion of wastes that would be stimulated by the cleanse. If you have tried a cleanse before and felt sluggish or had headaches throughout the first week, you are likely reabsorbing toxins from the liver that can be eliminated because of constipation. Fiber supplement with psyllium, pectin, guar and oat bran can bring quick improvement if your diet is deficient in fiber. Probiotic supplements contain bacteria that are normally found in the intestinal tract, and help restore a balance that can overcome mild constipation or irrehular bowels. Once you are more regular, herbal formulas with dandelion, chelidonium or artichoke will improve liver excretion and function. Combined with a greens product, you should feel more vibrant in two to three weeks. You might even shed a few stored up pounds. Scott Clack BSc.
