Where and how the region will grow is important to Halton community members and businesses. According to the provincial Places to Grow document, Halton needs to plan for up to 780,000 people and 390,000 jobs by the year 2031, while its current Official Plan accommodates growth to 2021 for a population of 628,900 people and 340,000 jobs. Given the importance of planning for the future, Halton Region staff are available to any community group or business that would like to hear a presentation and discuss the Region's Sustainable Halton planning process -- a comprehensive planning process that will help the region determine how and where it will grow to 2031 and beyond. It examines issues such as how much land Halton needs, air quality, transportation, agriculture, social and community services, physical activity, needs of an aging population and more. Sustainable Halton will also identify the important parts of Halton's natural heritage system. "When we plan for what Halton will look like in the future, we need to hear from the community on what they want to protect and preserve," said Regional Chair Gary Carr. "While we'll have open houses this winter, we know that not everyone can make it out to a public meeting. By going out to community and business groups, we're making sure that people know about Sustainable Halton and have the information they need to tell us what they want Halton to look like in the future. These smaller meetings are also a good way for the public to dive deeper into issues important to them to make sure Regional staff understands their perspectives," said Carr. NOTICE OF TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE Fourth Line between North Service Road & South Service / Wyecroft Road One-year period commencing November 10, 2007 To facilitate improvements to the QEW and the Fourth Line, the existing Fourth Line bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new bridge structure over the QEW. The new bridge will span a widened QEW and support an improved Fourth Line roadway. The bridge will be closed on November 10, 2007 for improvements and reopened again in late 2008. Advanced investigative work prior to the bridge closure and its demolition will take place during the week of November 5th to the 9th. The sidewalk will be closed during this period but the roadway will remain open with occasional lane closures occurring between 9am and 3pm. Traffic delays and congestion are to be expected. The new bridge will span a widened QEW, support an improved Fourth Line roadway, and incorporate pedestrian and cycling facilities, as well as additional lanes for traffic and transit. During the closure, the long-term detour route will be via the North Service Road, Wyecroft Road and Dorval Drive. While these roads will remain open, various lane closures will be required at intersections on North Service, South Service and Wyecroft roads to facilitate construction work and to control traffic flow. The purpose of this application is to redesignate and rezone lands for high density residential development with ground floor commercial along Lakeshore Road, a height limit of 4 storeys, and to introduce development phasing policies.
