30 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 31, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com International Guitar Night returns for Nov. 24 concert North America's most successful mobile guitar festival is returning to Oakville. International Guitar Night (IGN) will take the stage at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. It's part of a 22-concert, cross-country tour marking IGN's second Canadian tour. IGN founder Brian Gore has invited Madagascar native D'Gary and England's Clive Carroll, along with Trinidadian-born Miguel de la Bastide, to join him for the second IGN foray into Canada after eight annual U.S. tours. The emphasis is on original music, including solos, duets and a closing quartet that is a highlight of each concert. In support of this tour, Pacific Music, distributed by Warner Music Canada, released the second International Guitar Night CD on Oct. 2. D'Gary is a renowned guitarist from Antananarivo, Madagascar, who burst on the world music scene after a recording made by David Lindley and Henry Kaiser. His complex, percussive style and plaintive singing are based on traditional Malagasy music. Listen closely to his music and it may sound like there are at least two guitarists playing. De la Bastide has been involved with flamenco for more than 25 years. He is one of the few guitarists outside of Spain who has mastered the techniques and the knowledge of the flamenco guitar. Carroll, of Essex, England, comes from a gifted family of musicians and instrument makers. He was introduced to American audiences touring with Tommy Emmanuel, and has gone on to a career as an international touring performer, studio musician, and recording artist. Gore, a lyrical fingerstyle guitarist from San Francisco, founded the International Guitar Night in the '90s to bring the wealth of acoustic guitar music to audiences across North America. He has two criticallyacclaimed solo albums, and is also known for his duo and trio collaborations. International Guitar Night will take place at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.oc4pa.com, through the box office by calling 905-815-2021 or in person at 130 Navy St. GRAND RIVER SHEDS INC.
