www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 31, 2007 - 7 Incidents leave residents shaken Create the perfect look for your home Continued from page 1 who was taken to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) for surgery to repair his injury. The homeowner was also taken to OTMH where he was treated for minor injuries. "It was a nightmare," said the witness. "We've never had anything like this happen before. It was very, very scary." As bad as the witness says this incident was, she points out that it could have been a lot worse. "Every house on this street has small children who play in the neighbourhood. This gang was around here since 9:30 p.m. so these small children could have been outside playing and they could have been injured," she said. "All these politicians that said, `vote "I've lived in a lot of cities and gone to a lot of creepy areas. I've always been able to avoid any problems and here I am walking home on a busy street in Oakville and I get smashed up." Robbery victim "It was a nightmare. We've never had anything like this happen before. It was very, very scary." Witness to attack on homeowner for me, vote for me,' they've got to do something." Police are trying to determine whether they may already have in custody one of the youths involved in the Mississaga Street incident. They are questioning a suspect arrested in connection with a separate assault in the Bronte area, which took place only a few hours later. In this incident an Oakville man was walking home along Lakeshore Road in Bronte when he was suddenly attacked and knocked unconscious. "They must have hit me extremely hard to put me down in one shot," said the victim, an Oakville man who requested not to be identified. "Do I remember anything? Did I hear footsteps? No, there was nothing. I was just walking along and then nothing." Police say the Oakville man and a second man who was walking nearby were repeatedly punched and kicked before their assailants robbed them of their wallets and cash. The fact that both men were intoxicated at the time of the assault has led police to believe their attackers chose them because they thought they would be easy victims. While the second man was not injured, the Oakville man was taken OTMH and treated for a serious head injury. "I got like 16-19 stitches in the back of the head and after the CAT scan on Saturday morning they said I had a fractured skull and a little bit of bleeding in the brain," said the Oakville man. "I've got scrapes all over my face from when I fell on the ground." Police interviewed several witnesses to the attack and identified a suspect. A short time later, a 17-year-old Oakville youth was located nearby and arrested. The youth has been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the assaults on the two men. Police are still investigating the possibility of the youth's involvement in the Mississaga Street incident. For the Oakville man who was assaulted, what transpired that night is still hard to believe, adding his voice to a number of others who are asking, `How this could have happened here?' "I've lived in a lot of cities and gone to a lot of creepy areas. I've always been able to avoid any problems and here I am walking home on a busy street in Oakville and I get smashed up," said the man. "I'm very lucky I'm not worse off than I am." As the Oakville man recovers, having checked himself out of hospital, the challenge is now to see how much damage this incident has done to his life and to move beyond it. However, as the victim points out, this can be more difficult than it seems. "I don't know if they kept my address, the whole thing is just really creepy," he said. "It's like when someone breaks into your house, you feel violated all the time." Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate these incidents.
