Dry AMD progresses quite slowly and painlessly while wet AMD is more aggressive and can strike with alarming speed. Both types damage the macula and can cause central vision loss and blindness. New medications have great promise in improving the quality of life for people living with this condition so there is currently a lot of research being done in this area. The trick is to catch and treat this disease before it causes irreversible damage and that's why regular eye exams are so vital. There may be no warning with many of these conditions until it is too late, so an annual routine eye exam with an eye doctor is crucial, so these conditions can be caught and treated before irreversible damage can occur.
