A poppy poster is available for display in windows and cars until Sunday. Flynn has launched the annual opportunity for Oakville residents to show their respect and remembrance for the brave Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve peace throughout the world. The large poppy poster is available free of charge through Flynn's community office in Oakville located at Unit 2, 2330 Lakeshore Rd., W., Oakville, ON, L6L 1H3. "My staff and I were challenged by a constituent to find another way for businesses and residents in Oakville to express their thanks and appreciation to both our brave veterans and those courageous men and women who continue to serve in Canada's Armed Forces both here and abroad," said Flynn. During the first half of this century, some 1.5 million Canadians were called upon to defend peace and freedom around the world during the First World War, the Second World War and the Korean War. More than 110,000 Canadians lost their lives. Presently, more than 3,000 Canadian soldiers, sailors and Air Force personnel are deployed overseas on operational missions. On any given day, about 8,000 Canadian Forces members are preparing for, engaged in or returning from an overseas mission. "Today we witness the media elevating and idolizing various athletes, fashion models, movie stars and musicians, many of whom deliver questionable messages to our young people," said Flynn. "It becomes easy to forget that the real "heroes" are the veterans who were killed or injured, those who were able to return home and march on Remembrance Day and the young men and women who continue to bravely serve in uniform today," said Flynn. Donations to the poster campaign are accepted on behalf of the Oakville and Bronte Legions.
