It's alleged he also defrauded a doctor at the Hospital for Sick Children, an actor and a photographer. Although Clemons and other Argos live in Oakville, police said none of the latest charges involved the professional football team. Said Det. Gerard Kelly of Halton's Criminal Investigation Bureau, "He met a lot of people through his minor football association. Football seems to be the main way he met people. He advised them on investments he could make for them with his company. He told various different stories." Police allege Garrick hosted dinner meetings at upscale Oakville residences. "He told them how successful he was," Kelly said. "At the end of the day, people never got anything. He had just been stalling them." Police said the Halton frauds totalled about $100,000. One individual lost about $20,000, Kelly Walter Garrick said. Kelly said the accused man promised those he allegedly defrauded that they would see big returns on their investments. But when the cash windfall never occurred, they became suspicious and contacted Halton Police. Garrick turned himself into police on Monday after authorities contacted his lawyer. He was held overnight and was released on $50,000 bail the following morning. Specific details of the allegations made against him that were revealed in court remain under a publication ban. He is scheduled to appear Nov. 26 in a Milton court for his latest charges. Garrick was already under a court-ordered bail release and living at his parent's home in an upscale Oakville neighbourhood when the latest charges were laid. Investigators believe there may be other victims and Halton Police are requesting the public's assistance in obtaining any information on Garrick's business activities that may assist their investigation.
