38 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 14, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Oakville Galleries wins big at provincial art awards Oakville Galleries picked up a lot of hardware at the recent Ontario Association of Art Galleries Awards the most recognition of any arts organization in the province. The local gallery picked up four awards at the 30th annual OAAG's, held recently at the Art Gallery of York University. The annual province-wide juried awards recognized and celebrated excellence and achievement in exhibitions, curatorial writing, education programs and community partnership in Ontario's public art galleries. This year, ten peer jurors recognized 18 galleries from 11 cities across the province with 21 Awards of Excellence. Among the awards presented to Oakville Galleries was the 2007 Educator Award to Shannon Anderson, Catherine Sicot, Tony Hewer and Denise Frimer for Oakville Addresses, a program designed to foster a new generation of art writers and enthusiasts. Paddy Gunn O'Brien was presented with the very first Colleague Award by Oakville Galleries' curator Marnie Fleming in recognition of longtime service to Ontario art galleries. "Given her 16 year relationship as house editor with Oakville Galleries, we were ecstatic to learn Paddy had won," said Fleming. "Her legacy is legendary, having overseen a staggering 1,280 visual art exhibitions throughout her career." And for the third year in a row, Mark Timmings won the prize for best Gallery publication for designing Oakville Galleries' newsletter. Finally, Oakville Galleries also won the award for Essay Short, for Jeanne Randolph's Along the Lakeshore: An incantation for John and Paul. 0 4 de ps to l e r a Saturday 10 am - 5 pm / Sunday 11 am - 5 pm This will be a first class show, great quality and wide variety Excellent gift ideas for everyone on your list By the people who produce Christie 3rd Line Highway 5, Dundas St 4th Line S.
