Blakelock's football field yesterday afternoon to celebrate Oakville's 150th birthday. Oakville Beaver photographer Derek Woollam captured the result from 100 feet in the air, thanks to an aerial platform on an Oakville Fire Department truck. A photograph of the students in the 150 formation will hang in Town Hall to commemorate Oakville's anniversary. OAKVILLE DODGE NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION The New Happy birthday Oakville By Krissie Rutherford OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF 646 4th Line at Speers Rd. 905.845.4211 careers@oakvilledodge.com sales@oakvilledodge.com Nearly 700 students from eight different high schools got together yesterday to give the Town of Oakville a unique birthday gift. With the assistance of taped guidelines, the students assembled on T.A. Blakelock's football field to form a giant numeric 150 to commemorate Oakville's sesquicentennial. An aerial photograph captured the result, which will hang in Town Hall. Making it happen, of course, was no easy feat. "People in the zero, you need to pack in," "We've had a lot of 150th birthday celebrations in the past, but we hadn't had a youth event. We thought this would be a great idea, to get all the youth together to celebrate Oakville." Julie Harmgardt, chair of the Oakville Youth Advisory Committee organizer and Blakelock student Julie Harmgardt yelled into a loudspeaker, minutes before the pictures were taken. "We need to get all the random people around the one to move in," she added, as vol- unteers in orange bibs tried to assemble students into numbers. At times, the zero looked more like a Q, and the five, more like an S. But by the time photographers were ready and hoisted 100 feet in the air on an aerial platform courtesy of an Oakville Fire Department truck so were the students. Chair of the Oakville Youth Advisory Committee, it was Harmgardt who came up with the idea for the photo. "We've had a lot of 150th birthday celebrations in the past, but we hadn't had a youth event," said the 17-year-old.
