Melton, who passed away after a brief illness in September of this year, was honoured as Loyola celebrated the academic achievements of its students recently. Melton's brother, Eric, accepted the award on behalf of the Melton family members who attended, including his mom Donna, dad William and sister Sian. Presenting the award were board education director Lou Piovesan and the school chaplain, Lorenzo Campanelli. The Father Fogarty Award is presented annually to a student involved in projects that enhance the identity of Loyola in the local community. It recognizes scholarship, involvement in school and community activities and conduct, which typifies the objective of a Catholic school. Melton was a member of Loyola's Pro Life and Social Justice committees, Southern Ontario Model United Nations DEREK WOOLLAM / OAKVILLE BEAVER HONOURED: Catholic District School Board Education Director Lou Piovesan addresses the crowd at St. Ignatius of Loyola's awards ceremony. (SOMA) and was a prefect. He was involved in activities coordinated by the chaplain and was well-loved and respected among his peers and the staff. The awards ceremony recognized contribution to school and community, academic excellence and being on the Honour Roll for the 2006-2007 school year.
