Garbage! is a feature documentary about how the family household has become a ferocious environmental predator through its production of garbage. Writer and director Andrew Nisker takes an average urban family, the McDonalds, and asks them to keep every scrap of garbage that they create for three months. He then takes them on a journey to find out where it all goes and what it's doing to the world. From organic waste to the stuff they flush down the potty, the plastic bags they use to the water they drink out of bottles, the air pollution they create when transporting the kids around, to using lights at Christmas, the McDonalds discover that for every action there is a reaction that affects them and the entire planet. By the end of this trashy odyssey, Nisker hopes viewers will be inspired to revolutionize their lifestyles for the sake of future generations. In Garbage! Nisker puts all of the information in one place shifting the movement from melting glaciers and oil slicks to our neighbourhoods and into our homes, so that average people can connect the dots between their actions and the environment and be inspired to change their polluting ways. Brendan Galloway has been playing the piano for a little more than three years, yet his music teacher says he has the poise of a professional. Galloway was recruited to The Lawrenceville School as an elite basketball player, but immediately gravitated to the music building to play a concert grand piano. There, he was discovered by the school's director of music and was promptly offered a scholarship for private instruction. "Basketball has essentially landed me in the States, and at this school. So, in a way, basketball has introduced me to the experience of playing music," said Galloway. He dreams of playing professional basketball in Europe one day. "In Europe," Galloway says, "there is a whole artistic scene that basketball can, again, help me to experience." Galloway is playing from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25 at CJ's Café in Bronte, as a classical addition to the Sunday Singer Songwriter Series, which runs every Sunday.
