www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 21, 2007 - 41 OAKVILLE GIRLS DOMINATE: Oakville Hornets novice A( above left) and atom AA squads both went undefeated at a recent girls' hockey tournament in Waterloo, joining Oakville's atom BB team as division champions. Novice A, atom AA teams part of Hornets' success in Waterloo Oakville Hornets squads enjoyed plenty of success at the recent Waterloo Ravens Fall Challenge Cup. The novice A, atom AA and atom BB Hornets combined to post a 13-0-1 record at the competition, with each team claiming gold. Three of the four victories by the novices came by onegoal margins, including a 3-2 overtime win over Burlington in the final. Brooke Jovanovich provided the winner during a three-on-three sudden death period, with goaltender Susie Dunn earning MVP honours. Also contributing for the novice A Hornets, who defeated Burlington 3-2, Waterloo 3-2 and Etobicoke 4-3 during round-robin play, were Jaime Brioux, Esmee Jordan, Laura Seeley, Emma Thompson, Madeline Osgarby, Isabelle Mastantuono, Erica Chan, Madeleine Clapham, Jennifer McAllister, Kate Vaneeuwyk, Samantha Watkins, Rachel Albertine, Victoria MacDonald and Delaney Pritchard. Dave McAllister, Steve Seeley, Mike Jovanovich and John Jordan coach the team. Debbie Osgarby and Sandra Watkins are the trainers, and Denise Clapham is the manager. Oakville's atom AA entry also won its gold medal in dramatic fashion, edging the Whitby Lady Wolves in a shootout. Following scoreless regulation and overtime play, Taylor McMahon scored for Oakville in the shootout and Nikki Cece clinched the win by stopping Whitby's final shooter. "It was an easy game to coach," said atom AA Hornets coach Lou Merrick. "The girls played so well and with such passion, all we had to do was manage the gates and encourage the girls to keep playing their best." Cece finished the tournament with a 0.60 goals-against average in five games. Olivia Atkinson, Kaitlyn Norris, Cassidy Miller, Claire Merrick, Kaitlyn McAllister, Emily Schnarr and McMahon had goals during the tournament for Oakville, which also posted wins over Waterloo (2-1), Brampton (2-0) and Burlington (3-1) after opening the competition with a 1-1 tie against Whitby. Contributing assists were Jacinta Kennedy, Laura Crowdis, MacKenzie Stamper, Breeann Gallagher, Kristin O'Neill, Madison Field, Chloe Morrison and Jessica Geddes. The 22-year-old senior was named the competition's Most Outstanding Player after leading the University of Massachusetts to its first Atlantic 10 title in six years. The backfielder assisted on both the Minutewomen's goals in a semifinal win over Richmond and was instrumental in shutting down both Richmond and Saint Joseph's leading scorers. DoRosario was also named to the Atlantic 10's All-Conference first team and earned UMass athlete-of-the-week honours. UMass qualified for the NCAA tournament, where its season was ended with a 4-1 loss to fourth-ranked UConn Huskies.
