Oakville scored two late goals Friday to pull away from the Milton IceHawks in a 4-1 win at Joshua's Creek Arenas, used a shootout marker by Chris Haltigin to edge the Georgetown Raiders 3-2 Saturday in Georgetown, and defeated the Streetsville Derbys 5-4 Sunday in Streetsville on a third-period winner by defenceman Trevor Eckenswiller. The three wins improved the Blades' record to 19-4-3-1 and enabled them to open up a six-point lead on the Brampton Capitals for top spot in the Provincial Junior A Hockey League's West Conference standings. Geoff Guimond scored twice in the win over Milton, including a marker with 1:09 remaining in regulation to give Oakville a 3-1 lead. Julian Cimadamore added an empty netter. Eckenswiller had the Blades' other goal, set up by Guimond and Jeremy Welsh in the first period. Welsh finished the game with three assists, while Luke Moodie, Nick McParland and Chris Corbeil also recorded helpers, and Scott Greenham stopped 24 of 25 shots for the victory in goal. Saturday, McParland got the Blades on the board early and Corbeil tallied late to tie the game 2-2 and force overtime. Haltigin broke the deadlock in the eighth round of the shootout. Greenham again earned the win, making 28 saves, and Moodie and Cimadamore had two assists each. Steven Guzzo, Sean Teakle, Corbeil, McParland and Eckenswiller had the Oakville goals Sunday, with Eckenswiller breaking a 4-4 tie with 8:09 to go in regulation. Oliver Wren picked up the win in net, while Dan Hunt, Jon Cristini, Luc Boissinneault, Connor McMonagle, Moodie, Guzzo, Welsh, Guimond and Cimadamore had assists. The Blades will visit Brampton tomorrow, then host the Burlington Cougars Friday at Joshua's Creek Arenas (7:30 p.m. start). Oakville will travel to Burlington Sunday. DEREK WOOLLAM / SPECIAL TO THE OAKVILLE BEAVER FLEXIBILITY: Oakville Blades goaltender Scott Greenham does the splits in an effort to stop a breakaway attempt by Milton's Kevin Caister. The IceHawks scored on the play, but it was the lone goal Milton would manage in a 4-1 Blades' win Friday at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Oakville won 3-2 in Georgetown the following night, then edged the Streetsville Derbys 5-4 Sunday to extend its winning streak to seven games and pad its lead atop the Provincial Junior A Hockey League West Conference standings.
