42 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 28, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com BMFA title for Blue Bombers Girls' volleyball programs Ryan Lovitt reached the end zone on a fourth-and-goal play in the final minutes, lifting an Oakville-filled Blue Bombers squad to a 23-16 win over the Tiger-Cats in the recent Burlington Minor Football Association atom championship game. Lovitt broke the plane with a power run to the right side, gaining the necessary two yards to give the Bombers the lead. The Bombers' defense, led by Oliver Hanley, denied the TigerCats' last-ditch effort to tie the game. Will Hudson scored the Blue Bombers' other two touchdowns, one coming on an interception return. Blue Bombers quarterbacks Ryan Ziggrosi and Kyle Fischer teamed to move the ball effectively throughout the day, while big plays from Andy Moore and Sam Sadler contributed to the team's first touchdown drive. Angus Chalmers, Brad Noonan, Callum Falkenstein, Philip Di Giovanni and Lovitt provided pressure on the Tiger-Cats quarterback all game. Sam Delage, Evan Lippay and Keenan Beaumont came up big on defense in the fourth quarter, helping the Blue Bombers stop the Tiger-Cats on downs and setting up the decisive score. Ben Hanley, Pat Sadler, Ryan Weech, Jacob Clark, Kyle Palm, Connor Sowsun, Blake Ziggrosi and Bryan Watson also contributed to the team's success. Tyler Weech, Matt Griffin and Dan Pearson coached the squad. Halton Region Volleyball Club is offering instructional and house league girls' volleyball programs in Burlington this winter season. Girls age 9-12 can participate in an instructional program that will feature skill development drills as well as three-on-three games. The 10-week program will be held at Tansley Woods Recreation Centre, with the 9/10 age group's sessions running from 12:30-2 p.m. and the 11/12 group's sessions running from 2-3:30 p.m. Girls age 13-16 can compete in the house league season, which will also include a half-hour of instruction each week from HRVC coaches. Programs begin in January Grade 7-8 students will play Mondays at Sacred Heart School, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Grade 9-10 players will compete Wednesdays at Elizabeth Seton School, from 89:30 p.m. Both programs are scheduled to begin in January.
