24 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday December 5, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Guinness World Record for Santa's mail Santa Claus has always been a popular pen pal. For the past six years, more than a million children have sent him their thoughts and greetings along with the ever-popular wish list. Santa is so popular that Canada Post, because of the amount of mail that passes through the North Pole Post Office, has been named the Guinness World Records holder for the most letters received and replied to by mail. For 26 years now, Canada Post has officially helped Santa respond to more than 15 million letters from children. Santa has received more than one million letters each year for the past six years, and the company (and Santa) doesn't expect this year to be any different. Santa's computer is also busy this time of year as many children write to Santa through his website at canadapost.ca/santascorner. "This Guinness World Record is welcome recognition for the volunteers who work so hard to ensure Santa's mail receives the attention it deserves," says Robert Waite, Canada Post's senior vice-president of stakeholder relations and brand. "This Guinness World Record should be celebrated by all of Santa's Postal Elves," says Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records. Kids can address their letters to Santa Claus, North Pole, HOH OHO, Canada. Children can also visit canadapost.ca/santascorner to send an email to Santa. There, kids will also be able to see a podcast from Santa and get a glimpse into life at the North Pole through Santa's diary.
