OT sweeps titles at swim meet Oakville Trafalgar High School won the girls', boys' and overall team titles at the four-school swim meet it hosted Friday at White Oaks Pool. The Red Devils dominated the girls' competition, finishing with more team points (236) than Iroquois Ridge, T.A. Blakelock and White Oaks combined (194). Boys' action was a bit closer, as OT's 135 points were 35 more than second-place finisher Iroquois Ridge. Oakville denied in Tier 2 v-ball Schools from the north won both the girls' and boys' Tier 2 Halton elementary school volleyball titles up for grabs Friday in Milton. Milton's Hawthorne Village earned the girls' title, defeating Burlington's Brant Hills 19-25, 25-21, 15-9 in the championship game. Georgetown's Silver Creek claimed the boys' crown with a 25-17, 25-22 victory over Oakville's Pine Grove. Pine Grove, competing in its first season of senior volleyball, had gone 3-3 in pool play before upsetting Heritage Glen 25-6 in the semifinal. Simon Harmgardt stood out with his power serves and spikes, Austin Wright set the ball well throughout the evening, and Berkin Cetin provided plenty of leadership for Pine Grove. Heritage Glen and New Central posted 4-2 records in preliminary-round action, with Heritage Glen claiming its pool via tiebreaker. New Central dropped its semifinal game to Silver Creek, 2512. Parity was the story in girls' play. Three schools, including Oakville's Eastview and West Oak, finished tied for first place in one of the pools. Brant Hills edged out West Oak 15-13 in a tiebreaker to advance to the playoff round. Eastview fell 25-23 to Hawthorne Village in the semifinals. 24th Year Blades keep rolling with three more wins Geoff Guimond scored with 5:10 remaining in regulation time to give the Oakville Blades a 7-6 win over the Burlington Cougars Sunday, the Blades' third victory in four days. Jeremy Welsh added two goals and Nick McParland, Julian Cimadamore, Chris Haltigin and Chris Corbeil also tallied for the Blades, who extended their winning streak to 10 games. Oakville continues to lead the Provincial Junior A Hockey League's West Conference, owning a record of 22-4-3. Luke Moodie had three assists, and Welsh added two helpers for a fourpoint afternoon. Sunday's game was the back end of a home-and-home between the Blades and the Cougars. Oakville claimed the first meeting, 5-2 Friday at Joshua's Creek Arenas, as Trevor Eckenswiller, Luc Boissinneault, Cimadamore, McParland and Moodie found the net for the Blades. The previous night, Oakville knocked off the second-place Brampton Capitals 3-1. Guimond, Eckenswiller and Moodie had the Blades' goals. Scott Greenham earned the win in goal in all three games. Oakville is scheduled to face two of the league's weaker teams this weekend.
