www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday December 7, 2007 - 39 Orange Coloured Sky a dream By Jasminee Sahoye SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER A unique art gallery, owned by an artist who is showcasing her art forms in what's designed to be an intimate and cozy environment, is creating a buzz at 2336 Lakeshore Rd. W. in Bronte. This venture is not new for Darla Thompson McNevin, a music and ceramics graduate of Humber and Sheridan colleges. Thompson McNevin previously owned a gallery and studio in a cottagecountry setting on the lake before moving to Oakville in 2004 and has had her work exhibited at different locations. It's her dream and passion for the arts that led her to open Orange Coloured Sky, late last month, and a way of sharing her expertise with the community. "The response has been outstanding...people really love the space, it's very warm, it's set up like a room in a house, a cozy place to sit down... somebody said to me today it's like food for the soul," Thompson McNevin told The Beaver recently. Thompson McNevin makes her living through marketing her artwork and believes the gallery is the best way to do that. "I'm usually here. Often I would be painting and so people can come and see how the work gets done. There's a pottery studio being created downstairs, so people can come and have tours of that, they can talk to the artist. I'm also going to be bringing my guitar, so I'll be singing some days, so it's the real deal. It's not a gallery owner showing other people's art, it's the place where the artist works." For those who are looking for gift ideas for the festive season, Thompson McNevin has specially-created handmade cards, bags, soap, pottery, lip balm and paintings See New page 43 Women love koala bears, but they go home with the dingo.
