Each year during the holiday season, MOHA and the local fire department collect unwrapped toys for underprivileged children and families in the community. This year's collection stations will be set up at Glen Abbey tomorrow (Saturday), from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and at Joshua's Creek Arenas Sunday, again from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Twenty-eight Oakville speed skaters recently achieved their time and distance standards and earned the right to compete in the first Ontario Cup age class meet of the season, the first stem in attempting to qualify for the end-of-season provincial championships. Sean McAnuff and Jeremy Lin each won individual gold medals at the Ontario Cup meet, held in Cambridge, while Erin Heidecker claimed silver. Relay competition saw Ben Heidecker and Zachary Lin win gold medals with the midget and juvenile boys' relay team, while Patrick Duffy was part of the firstplace-finishing junior and senior men's relay team. Sean Stewart, Anaka WillDryden, Joshua Sullivan and Duffy added fourth-place finishes in individual action, with some divisions featuring as many as 20 skaters. Amanda Tickner and Emma Hobson had fifth-place outings, and Hazel Garde placed sixth. Eli Chislett, Ryan McAnuff and Colin Skov achieved the difficult provincial time standard, and Danie Giannotti competed strongly in his first Ontario Cup meet. Quebec Elite meet Duffy also recently competed at the first Quebec Elite meet of the season, held in Montreal, against some of the top skaters in eastern Canada.
