Among the medal winners were Katelyn Palmer, Chelsey Stamegna, Ashley Kenny, Hannah Sweett, Lia Han, Tine Ramsden, Christina Licastro, Alisha Butani, Gabriella Schneider, Katie Orlando, Keara Maynard, Sarah Locke, Hannah Nilsson and coach Michelle Gallie. Edge teams sharp Oakville Edge synchronized skating teams won two medals at last weekend's Bill Phillips competition in Stratford. The High Performance Pre-Juvenile Team won gold with its performance of The Muppets, while the Pre-Novice Team earned bronze -- narrowly missing silver -- with a beautifully-choreographed program of Charlotte's Web. "Oakville Edge coaches Lisa Mazzocato, Michelle Gallie and I were very pleased to see these outstanding results at such early stages of the competitive season," said Jayda Everett-Malcolm, head coach of the Edge synchronized teams. "We are extremely pleased with the growth in our programs this year, with a record five teams ranging from Intro through Pre-Novice." Oakville Edge is currently taking registrations for the Intro to Synchro Program. The program runs from Jan. 6 to April 6. Venom lethal in November The Oakville Venom bantam girls' AAA basketball team recently concluded a successful November, a month in which it won two tournaments in the U.S. The Venom first traveled to Flint, Michigan, where it easily defeated its first two opponents before meeting the Pontiac Panthers in the final. Pontiac held a 12-10 lead at halftime, but the Venom limited the Panthers to one basket in the second half and pulled out a 24-14 win. Oakville then participated in a tournament in Rochester, where it rolled to four straight wins. The Venom routed the host Eastside squad 49-13 and followed with wins over Mississauga, Webster and Dundas. All this success took place before the Ontario Basketball Association season had even officially opened. The league season was scheduled to tip off yesterday with a tournament in Dundas. Members of the Venom are Kayla Davis, Rachelle Cyrus, Jovana Momic, Rasheeka Gunn, Courtney Den Elzen, Nina Guzina, Alex Ruscica, Courtney Chambers, Emily Wilk, Leah Fleming and Sarah Traynor. Pat Traynor and Cassandra Cyrus coach the club. GOOD START: The Oakville Venom bantam girls' AAA basketball team won two tournaments last month. Howick champions EAGLES FLY HIGH: The Oakville minor peewee red Eagles won all three of their games to claim the championship at a recent hockey tournament in Howick. After defeating Strathroy 1-0 and Seaforth 5-1 to reach the final, the Eagles overcame a 3-0 deficit with five unanswered goals to down Minto and earn the gold. Members of the team are Spencer Arbuthnot, Kevin Hopkins, Jared Leedham, Kyle Carey, Ryan Stanbury, Brent Heeney, Thomas Vrooman, Ryan DiLella, Julien Forget, Evan Herniak, Cameron Mulligan, Cole Vincent, Taylor Kurc, Sam Domachevski, Kyle Tryon and Jamison Higa. The squad is coached by Mike Herniak, Bob Mulligan, Jacqui Mulligan and John Leedham.
