Silver for Blue Thunder in Georgetown There wasn't much between the Oakville Hornets peewee Blue Thunder and the gold medal at the recent North Halton Twisters house league girls' hockey tournament. Oakville led the championship game 2-0 before Guelph rallied, tying the contest with four minutes to go in regulation time. Overtime settled nothing, so the game was decided in a shootout, with Guelph outscoring Oakville 2-1. The Blue Thunder went 2-1 in round-robin play, then defeated a then-undefeated (and unscored-upon) Windsor squad 1-0 in the semifinal. The Blue Thunder is captained by Emily Neil; filling out the roster are Holly Miller, Lindsay Clarke, Leigh Ptashnik, Rachel Seccaspina, Rachel Rush, Karina Larramee, Kendall Merritt, Celena Charron, Shannon McInerney, Amanda Vrbensky, Jaimie Rodriguez, Melissa Coulson, Emily McGrath and Alex MacGrandle. Goaltender Sarah Beluz and forward Emma Wingrave joined the team for the tournament. Rob Neil, Geoff Coulson and Mark Merritt are the coaches, while the trainers are Maureen Neil and Joy Coulson. The team is sponsored by Dr. Vrbensky Dentistry. CHAMPS IN LONDON: The Oakville peewee red Lumberjacks celebrate their tournament win in London. Lumberjacks lop Wranglers in London Defeating the Minor Oaks Hockey Association house league rival Wranglers in the final, the Oakville peewee red Lumberjacks won the championship at a recent tournament in London. Jimmy Gogos scored twice and Brody Brandt, Luke Sayers and Blake Toncic added singles in the Lumberjacks' 5-2 victory. Matthew Chau earned two shutouts for the Lumberjacks in the tournament. Also contributing were Brandon Smith, Jordan Bollinger, Jonathon Gaspari, Stephen Hazineh, Patrick Rushton, James Snoddy, Vincent Trupiano, Stephen Toncic, Mike Danton, Angus Chalmers, Jacob Vansickle and John Breeson.
