The two spoke for about 40 seconds before proceeding down the line. Though his team, the two-time defending national U.S. champions, had just handed Appleby a 9-0 loss, Gordon Stafford felt compelled to tell the Appleby captain what he thought of her game. "She's the most complete player we've played against in the last two years," Stafford said. "I just told her to keep working hard and a lot of her dreams are going to come true." That's already started. Next month she will suit up for Canada at the firstever women's under-18 hockey world championship in Calgary. "It's always been a dream of mine," the 16-year-old Jenner said. "I didn't think it would become a reality this early." Jenner has played extensively for Ontario. Still, Jenner thought the opportunity to play for Canada was several years away - until the Under-18 world tournament was created. She attended a strength and conditioning camp in the summer, and an on-ice training camp in the fall. Just trying out for the team was a great experience as Jenner worked with women's national team veterans Cassie Campbell and Danielle Goyette as well as Olympic team coach Melody Davidson. "It's pretty weird," Jenner said. "Players I grew up watching and I'm sitting having a regular conversation with them. It's surreal." Another aspect of playing for a national team that Jenner has enjoyed is lining up with the players from other provinces who were once her opponents. Appleby College coach Bradi Cochrane said Jenner has certainly earned her spot with the Canadian team.
