The local Provincial Junior A Hockey League squad extended its season-high winning streak to 13 games with a 6-2 victory over the Streetsville Derbys Friday at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Oakville spotted the Derbys a 2-0 first-period lead before scoring the final six goals of the contest. Nick McParland led the way with a goal and three assists, while Luke Moodie and Julian Cimadamore each added two goals and a helper. Trevor Eckenswiller also enjoyed a three-point evening, collecting three assists. Blake Barbieri had the Blades' other marker, and Oliver Wren stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn the victory in goal. Oakville (25-4-3) holds a 10-point lead on Hamilton for first place in the West Conference standings. The Blades also have two games in hand on the Red Wings. In two months, they'll have a chance to see how they stack up against international competition. The Rangers were recently accepted into the prestigious Quebec Peewee Tournament, which will be held Feb. 14-24 in Quebec City. The competition, the largest minor hockey tournament in the world, will draw squads from more than 16 different countries. Oakville won the SCTA division last season, posting a regular-season record of 32-2-3, and went on to earn silver in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association playdowns. This year, the Rangers are off to a 172-2 start.
